Doesn't sound right. A handful of people fought for 10 years to get a reptile keeping system approved. They had to form a herp society to be taken seriously so WASAH was formed for the sole purpose of getting pet reptiles legalised. WASAH gave CALM a great keeping system as part of their proposal and CALM cut it up and gave us the crap system we have today. A system where you cant even move or give away an animal without paying a dealer $50... A system that promotes wild taking over captive breeding. A system that restricts the number of clutches keepers can sell to a dealer. A system that doesn't allow python import (despite there never being a case Australia wide of disease from pet pythons spreading to wild populations)....
I doubt 300 species was ever really on the cards. The people in charge have stated that "reptiles are the currency of criminals". And we still get treated with that mentality...."Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect "

Snowy, Ill send you the original list B. Bush sent me, that they gave to DEC and that's what DEC chopped in half around 4 times.

Yeah I've seen that list Niall. Like the original submission that WAHS put in it has no real reflection on what DEC decided to do. When you look at our latest submission in full before it was reduced to 6 it looks like history repeating itself doesnt it.
They have us over a barrel and they love it!"Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect "

Sure is!!! Wish there was a legal way to challenge the system. I wrote to DEC licensing recently after Matt Swan was quoted in the paper saying there are over 4500 reptile licenses in WA. How are 24 dealers supposed to be able to meet the demand of that many keepers? There should be a form that we can send in directly to DEC to move animals. I told them I couldnt find a dealer and all they said in their response was, here is a list of the 24 dealers in WA, it's illegal to move an animal without going through a dealer. So if you live in the middle of nowhere in WA ( a state the size of qld, nsw and Vic all together), where there is no dealer around for miles and miles how do you move an an animal to a friend or someone?
If I could change one thing about this system it would be having to sell/move/trade through a dealer... I gave a hatchie to a mate the other day. To give a snake away you still have to pay $50 to a dealer... It really **** me!
Edit..
Huh just noticed that SH_T is not *** out if you write it in capitols with an s at the end. I had to put the stars in myself!
Are you back from up north Niall or are you yet to go?"Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect "

I think it was last year some people put a petition out to DEC to increase the list and they said that they weren't planing to do it any time soon

Pretty sure there is a discussion somewhere on hear about it.
I know at the Armadale Reptile Centre they have been fighting for a few years to get a few species in, one being a GTP and they are having a hard time with it.
