Pretty freaky looking. Quote below courtesy of Wikipedia.

Quote:
Horned lizards carry with them a wide variety of means to avoid predation. At least four species have the ability to squirt an aimed stream of blood from the corners of the eyes for a distance of up to 3 feet. The horned lizard is able to do this by restricting the blood flow leaving its head, thereby increasing blood pressure and rupturing tiny vessels around the eyelids. This not only confuses would-be predators, but the blood is also foul-tasting to canine and feline predators. It appears to have no effect against predatory birds.

Hello

Hello,

Yes, that is a horny toad or AKA hornedn toads. Don't confuse it with a Mountain Horned Dragon, they are very different.
They are the state reptile for Texas & Wyoming. They have been seen in Oklahoma, but due to fire ant infestation, etc, they migrated to Colorado I believe as well.
There are 14 species but only 8 that are native to the US.
The blood squirting is only for self defense. There are some people here in the US that are attempting to breed them in captivity, with some success so far.
Here is a link for more information.
