Yep, they are the world's largest monitor and have some nasty serated teeth on them designed to shred and tear flesh muahahaha They actually have very similar teeth to sharks in that new teeth come out from behind their present teeth and are somewhat pushed back laterally pointing backwards into the mouth.

Also their saliva harbour potentially deadly bacteria so a bite from one of these guys could very well see you dying from septicemia.

Such a fascinating species, always loved learning about these guys since I was a littly hehe

On their native island they have actually been known to did up human corpses for a feast. Apparently they're lazy scavengers most of the time, only hunting if they have to. They will also bite a large prey animal then just follow it around until it dies from the septicemia pythonrockchik1 mentioned. The babies live in trees for the first part of their lives so the adults wont eat them! Loving families!

I remember as a child reading that Komodo Dragons could reach lengths of 12 feet (just shy of 4 meters). Animals that large no longer exist - not sure of the actual reason (I'm sure someone will be able to expand on this). I couldn't imagine a monitor that size

well, the key reason for there size is island gigantism. And the key reason for their not being as many of the really big ones is purely human related.

Those bloody humans, we really should do something about them.... whos with me
