Does anyone here keep RBBS?
Just interested in your comments, good or bad, would you recommend them, how are they to keep, what do you feed them, what kind of enclosure do they prefer etc...

As a beginners Ven, RBBS as well as their cousin the Colletts are the way to go. Apart from fantastic looking animals, they usually calm down quite nicely and reasonably easy to handle. This is of couse assuming you know how to handle Vens.
They feed quite happily on rodents as juvies and adults but as they are born reasonably smallish, another food source will be needed until they able to take pinkie mice.
As mine are born and breed in Melbourne, I only use ambient room temps. I don't add artificial heat.
You can keep them in an enclosure set up the same for any other snake. Or, as I don't give them any artificial heat, all of mine are kept in large plastic tubs.

| Where they originate from seems to affect how well they do...My redbellies are from Sydney and I tried them without heat here in Melbourne and they didn't appreciate it. I jacked the temps up and they were back to normal. Some people have no problems at all keeping them at room temp.

Tell you what I will post another thread to inquire as to interest in such a course, and if there is enough I will make inquiries and get one organised. ( I am in Brisbane, so that's the location I would be looking at, but if there is interest in other locales, we could look at getting someone local to co-ordinate.)
OK, look for my thread.

My very first snake was a RBBS. I found a juvenile while out hunting and took it home (this is over 20 years ago). I kept it out in the shed ,in a fish tank with a mesh lid. No heat source. I fed it frogs a couple of times a week. Basically I had no idea what I was doing. I couldn't find out any information on how to look after them and most people thought I was crazy for wanting to. I eventually let the snake go after a couple of months.
If only APS had of existed back then.
