Wink Frillneck Lizards; What do you know?

A good friend of mine desperately wants one

But she needs some information first, so!

1) Can you even keep them in QLD?
2) Does anyone know of any breeders?
3) What sort of things to they eat? Are they similar to beardies to take care of?
4) What is their general temperament? Are they handleable or bitey?
5) What are their care requirements? (eg tank size, basking spot, uv etc)
6) What is their general cost?

Thank you everyone! Your help is most appreciated!

Hey,from what I know they are a lot like beardies to keep.Maybe bigger cage requirements. They need UVB source and feed them the same as beardies, woodies, crickets and some greens. All the captive frillknecks Ive seen have all been pretty tame and handleable.Good luck, James

Hey there Tirilia...Not sure about whether they are able to be kept in QLD, only know breeders in Melbz if interested pm me..They are mainly carnivorous will eat crix woodies mealworms I've heard people feed roo mince? pieces of meat? ect...
I feed my boy around 50crix a day he also eats apple grapes banana strawberries and occasionally for a treat baby food pumpkin, fruit flavors low in/free of sugar meal worms and mixed lettuce's with alfalfa.
They aren't similar to beardies in care requirements IMO, they need a taller enclosure as apposed to length lots of climbing branches and a hot spot of 35-38 degrees..They sometimes have troubles finding water bowls and can dehydrate rapidly if left unchecked I mist my boy every 2-3 days and introduce him to the water bowl every other day..
Temperaments can vary they are a very intelligent, timid creature I still can't understand my boys mentality half the time he's very moody if touched by other people and even if I go to pick him up..feed.clean etc.. will sometimes ark up yet other times he'll run up my arm and beg to sit on the couch all day long...
I like to set a routine with my 2 and stick to it the younger one doesn't get handled un-nessisarily...If you over handle or stress them out they can go into a sulk and go completely off their food and lose all interest in everything which can lead to death if not promptly assessed..
All in all they have to be one of my favorite lizards full of character and totally amazing

Thank you very much James and Itbites

Thanks for the Melb info, but I wouldnt want to put the poor thing through the stress of travel.

I know my friend is looking for something thats pretty handleable.. and preferably doesnt sulk *lol* I had heard that about them too.

I'll tell her all that you said Itbites and see what she reckons Thanks for that info! It was just the personal sort of experience I wanted to get.

BTW she was planning on keeping it in a tank that is 3.5ft (long) x 1.5ft (high).. Im guessing thats probably not enough?

i love the way their frill waves in motion as they drink & eat...
which can be a cause to them getting their frill ripped up if fed together

Yeh an enclosure that size would only be okay while the frilly is a juvi but i'de def move it on to a enclosure around 4ft high by 3ft wide after 10-12 months I think alot of people freak out about the whole sulk thing but really it's just like if you over handle or stress any creature, they will tend to fret or stop eatng. Thats why imo it's important to stick to a routine with them ....I highly recomend them infact when aquiring my last one I managed to temp two other people into getting them as well They really are a pleasure to keep
