Do you think it will be ok to leave them there or should i put them in a tank inside?
I have sand as a substrate with a couple of hides and a couple of things to climb and in the day they just hang off the walls of the enclosure to bask will this be ok?
thanks for any replies... |

note sure u should leave them on your tramp, what part of australia are u from, keeping them outdoors depends on your climate and if it is similar or the same as there natural habitat

Make sure that they don't just have hides, but they can also get out of the heat and the sun. Even in a hide, if the hide is in the sun, can get very, very hot. They need to be able to get cool.

ok, thanks mate, ill keep a good eye on them tomorro and if it looks like they are trying to get out of the sun ill put something else in there or i might just put a shade cloth over a part of the enclosure.

Shade cloth on part of it sounds like a good idea, especially if the enclosure gets full sun. Even though these animals live in hot regions, in the wild they can find cool places under things etc.
Always make sure they have a water bowl too, which will evaporate in the heat, keep an eye on that too.

Don't think you'll have a problem Clarky...
However it may be best to build a decent out door enclosure if you plan to leave them outside for good.
May save you the heart ache if they get out; or worse still; an accident such as a dog/cat/bird/kid etc get's in.
I've seen an example of where a mate had a bird type enclosure; and wild rats chewed the limbs off his juvenile beardeds as they slept one night.....had mouse wire been used; it may not have happened.
Dodgy enclosures will alway's bring you grief in one way or another......not worth it.
If you spend the time on getting the door/lid right; you'll be able to put anything in it...from small goanna's to sunning a few snakes.
I find when building a cage; one that can be used for any number of species is beneficial; as who know's what'll want next year.
For bearded's i'd suggest a trough type of enclosure; as in a round plastic cattle trough with a good steel mouse wire lid.....I've used old cut down rain water tanks in the past; least with the plastic one's; no painting or rust.
Heating can be provided with the use of lighting; or better still a pig blanket (plastic coated heat mat; used in piggeries for juv pig's...water proof, and tough)
You can decorate it anyway you wish; logs, rocks, sand grasses etc.
Better to have your plants potted; as larger lizards of any type; can be very destructive....least you can easily rotate them with ones from mum's pot plant collection....lol...just beware of poisonous varieties.
Situate your enclosure so it gets a reasonable amount of hours in regards to winter/summer sun light....happy bearded's
Here's an example of one used for Storr's monitors.

very nice indicus, your set ups look fantastic,so u have eastern beardys then,if so they will handle there local conditions finely,is there a reason why u have then on a tramoline though, much better for them on the natural ground, and with something to burrow into to escape the elements,,something like indicus,s storrs set up would be a great idea, but havnrt seen what yours is so any chance of some pics of it and your beardys, will be easyer to answer your question then

I keep my beardie in one of those bird aviaries you can buy, with lots of big braches and bark mulch down the bottom which she likes to dig in. She can be in full sun or in total shade if she likes, and also a big waterbowl.
But after reading the above posts, if they are wild caught, let them go! It's illegal and even putting that aside, it's just wrong.
