My new babies

This morning I decided to expand my little menagerie and I went and got these two little Pygmy Bearded Dragons.

Years ago I would never have believed that I would have gotten into keeping reptiles but I think they're gorgeous.

The funny thing is, I'm not at all scared of these guys, but I absolutely hate having to touch the crickets that I have to feed them. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to catch them?

I just pick up whatever they are hiding in (cardboard tube or egg carton) and shake a few into the feeding tub. I do the same with woodies, saves me ever having to touch them

I actually did manage to catch a few with the tongs but I felt a bit mean cause I thought I might have squished them a bit.

Yeah I know but I just thought it was adding insult to injury..lol

They will grow to be about 10 -15 cm from head to vent.

Pop your box of crickets into the freezer until they slow down a bit (watch the time though or you'll kill them) and they are much easier to handle.

do you buy the crickets? cos if you buy them in a container and cant get them out put the container in the fridge for 20 mins and the crickets go into a hibernation state. then i just pick them out with tweezers and feed it to my dragon.

its easy as

Yep, they came in a calico bag and had some egg carton type cardboard inside it. I now keep them in a plastic tub and I just shook most of them out into the container. A couple managed to escape so they are running free somewhere in the house. They had some carrot in with them as well, which I'm assuming I should replace now and then.

to catch them for consumption from your cricket tub......

take lid off....place tub under very bright light...they will hide in the egg cartons
shake a few (even if you have to use a plastic glove)..in a bucket with calcium
then use to feed...

if you have trouble catching them again to put back in cricket tub....dont bother, put a piece of carrot & a egg carton in the feed tank..they are there for next time!
