Turtle in the front yard

Just heard the dogs going nuts and found a turtle in the front yard, she (assuming) has dug a hole so i think she may be laying, i'll post pics later.
Is there anything i can do to stop rats from eating her eggs once she leaves?

Stand guard with a .410 shotgun?

Good to hear, are you near a watercourse?

i would suggest, although illegal (it would help them if there were eggs.. )

dig them up (carefully) incubate, when they hatch.. give them a few feeds of live food (fish/worms etc) and let them go in a pond or on a gold course etc.

or..

she could just be digging to escape the dogs..

or..

spend a load of money (as we herpers do) and make a pond.. i big one.. let them hatch and let them swim..

BHAHAHA after all.. their never actually leaving your property..

I don't want to disturb them after she lays them, or before actually. The dogs cannot get to her they are in an enclosed yard and hadn't noticed her until a little while ago, after the hole had been dug.

I was going to suggest incubating them also.

(The following question is purely hypothetical, so don't blast me!) But are the eggs of protected species, well, protected? Or is it just living breathing, un-enclosed-in-eggshell animals?
