Own an Endangered Mary River Turtle

AFTCRA is now making available hatchling Mary River Turtles. They are $180 each including freight to Brisbane and Sydney. Little bit more for other cities. All the proceeds from these sales will go into Mary River Turtle research by helping to fund field trips and the purchase of equipment.

Many of these hatchlings are now being released in to the Mary River but AFTCRA has decided to offer a limted number to dedicated keepers.

Delivery to Sydney will be in May during Anthony Stimsons Expo.

For more information contact myself on 0413 335 700 or AFTCRA on (07) 5408 2616

Pics to come but you can find out heaps at www.aftcra.org.au

And if they get too big you can swap them for another hatchy at any time.

Zulu, These Turtles are in Qld and will merely be delivered down here in May. They will be imported correctly via an import permit and exported via an export permit sorry mate, no fancy stuff happening here.

And nocajudo the only real difference I have found between them and long necks is that they also eat vegetable matter. Including algae!!!!!

But hopefully Craig or Gab will post here as well as they are the experts.

Hi everyone,

Mary River Turtles seem hardier than most species and have attitude to match. They tame very quickly and even though our 'for sale' hatchies are in a 1 thousand Litre tub, they still come over and hand feed.

I have attached a photo of the tank so you can see where they are currently housed.

Kind regards,

expansa1

But don't be scared off by the fact Craig has them in a 1,000 litre tank. I have three year olds that happily live in a 4 foot fish tank.

And think how fantastic it would be to actually have officially listed endangered animals in your herp room, legally. Plus you are helping ensure their survival in the wild.

You raise a good point there Hornet. Peter, Craig, do you know the stand on QLD and permits given the officially listed endangered status ?

even if they are on a specialist permit, you can keep two specialist animals on your rec licence

You require a recreational licence with endorsements to keep numerous restricted species.
However, if you just have a plain Qld recreational licence you are allowed to keep up to 2 only of a restricted species without any upgrading of your licence or any additional cost! So, yes you can keep 2 Mary river turtles if you wish.

Cheers,

Craig

Idheav, yes we can!

I forgot to mention that the $180 donation to AFTCRA also includes a years free membership and the Mary River turtle!

Freight to Melbourne airport will be an additional $60.

Regards,

Craig
