fixing glass door tracks to melamine

Hi can someone please help me, ive had my cage for about a year now(made by myself) ive had issues with the glass door tracks a few times and its really getting to me, ive tried using super glue and no nails to set the tracks to the melamine(using clamps and left to set for 24hrs each time) but it seem the heat from the lights in the enclosure is drying out or melting the glue cos it keeps coming loose around the heated end of the enclosure. its a 3 bank and this has happened on each and every cage!! i cant find screws thin enough to screw it into the melamine and im not sure on what else to try, im not a carpenter so if anyone has any advice greatly appreciated before i loose my snakes!!! thanks guys

use a nail gun.

im not sure where to nail it tho as i cant use the track areas as the glass wont slide and the bit in the middle is too thin, thats the reason i couldnt use the screws

Try some liquid nails that's what I use and amyet to have issues

i think thats the stuff i tried before though, i think it was called no nails in a tube which you had to use a metal gu type thing to attach it to? it was recomended by the person at bunnings when i was building it, but as i say its like disintegrated. can you describe the colour of the tub you get yours in, ill go to bunnings tomoro and get some more to try thanks kupper!

I use liquid nails, works everytime

Try Dow-corning 732 silicon, let cure for 24 hours, it will with stand the heat no problems.

there's a fair difference in quality and strength between "no nails" and "Liquid nails" the later being the better of the two. i use that and nail in panel pins to add extra strength.

all of mine i have used a nail gun, but liquid nails is what i would use if that was the only way to do it.

thanks heaps guys i will visit bunnings tomoro and let youze know how it goes fingers crossed! im goin for the liquid nails and will look into the pins, they dont split the plastic then?

no because i drill a hole through the track first

Some of the tracks will already have small pre-drilled holes

Problem with these holes, is that unless the nail is very very small, it will make a bulge on the track, and your glass will catch on it everytime, until it wears away....


I have always used "Liquid Nails".... Never had a problem....

Liquid nails , clamp over night , simple....

Mine had holes in the centre piece between the two tracks to suit a small nail. If you use an appropriatey sized nail it won't expand the centre piece and you won't have a bulge for the glass to catch on. It's quick, no mess, no drying time, still in place 3 years later.
