The times my son has used a heat cord, he has just sat one end of the tub onto it.
He pretty much uses heat mats for any tubs.

I have a piece of melamine i tape the heat cord on it and sit the tubs on the heat cord. It's pretty simple really, nothing confusing about it.

I use an old cake cooling rack to thread my heat cord through, and the other enclosures are heated by heat mat. I've had no issues

The tape really spreads out the heat well and I have some rocks in the enclosures to help as well. This setup easily got to 44 before I had my snakes in it (lol couldn't work the stupid thermometer) but holds the temps at 32ish really well..

I went heat cord as it was a cheaper setup then 4 smaller heat mats or 2 big ones..

    hope this helps

for my 7 liter tubs i use a reptapet 12watt mat [ 28cm x 28cm ] they come with a built in thermostat and are rather cheap [ i get mine for $45 each ] i use 1 mat per 2 tubs . with my 52 liter tubs i use a 20wt mat [ 28cm x 42cm $ 55 ] and i use 1 mat per tub . i could have went the heat cord way but by the time i buy a decent thermostat and a 50wt cord it was cheaper to go the heat mat way [ for me anyway]

The Flashtac aluminium tape has a bitumen backing, so it can be a bit messy when it gets hot. The best aluminium tape to use is available from JAYCAR online, it's just a heavy aluminium foil with an adhesive backing. I think around $15 for 50m at 50mm wide.
