no, they are perfect without a thermostat IMO you just need to work out how much of it to use to get the required heat. I once thried to see if i could melt one by putting it in a making it into a blob and putting it under a plastic container and it didnt even start to smell, they are the best heating product i have ever used by a long shot.

Also just be aware that the whole 4m doesn't heat up.

How much of the 4m actually heats up? The heat cords look as if they could be useful but the pet shop owners out here don't seem to know much about them. ..

Most of it heats up it has blue marks showing where the element starts and stops, about 50mm on the end doesnt heat up and a bit over half a meter near the plug doesnt heat up.

Can your snake get burnt on heat cords? Can you use them as your only heat source?
I like the sound of them so far, will have to look for them in my local area.

Depends how you use it. If it is in the enclosure and how big the enclosure is. Our heat cord get quite hot but we only run it outside the plastic tubs and only use 2 lines of the chord.

I use the 15 watt ones(as the thread is about) and they are fine in direct contact with snakes IMO. The higher wattage cords get alot hotter so probably arnt suitable.

Where abouts are you located Robmoore? And what was the name of the pet shop that didn't have, or know about them.

Cheers
