Hi all,
I recently picked up an adult pair of V.acanthurus...
They have been cooled and she is eating voraciously now that she is warming back up. Anyway, yesterday I walked in on what looked like the end of them mating, this morning my missus believes she saw them mating...good news I hope...
...a short time later I entered the room and found the female laying on her back with the male directly on top of her - they weren't hooked up, just laying there...is this normal?

Mine attack the crap outof each other before and during mating ( I'm not even sure they are a male and female , LOL ) , so I guess your male was just chasing the female with a bit of foreplay before mating |

Unfortunately they moved before I could get a shot of her on her back this morning...

I was amazed at the size of them - I wasn't expecting them to be that large (my other Ackie is only young and doesn't have anywhere near the bulk)...
...things are looking promising, he was harassing her for about 30 minutes just then, clawing at her back leg and wrapping his tail - not sure exactly what I am looking for, being my first time and all, but certainly looked like they were having a fair go of it *fingers crossed*

they look nice, is the female the same colour?
if shes ovulates she will look like the flavi all swollen, you can see her swollon ovem ( green circle)
when its gravid the eggs(green circle) go almost all the way to her arm pits.

when my pr mate the female is never on her back,my male isnt aggressive towards the female at all, just persistant, usually when they start mating they tend to copulate for long periods,so when im in the room its more odd for them not to be mating, kinky buggers, also as tristis says males sometime will mate with other males, females can with females as well, good luck with your 2 though, hope they are mating, and nice pics to,oh they get bigger than that to,i love ridgeys, cool monitors
