these are the only photos i could get of my ackie setup i have an adult pair in a 4x2x2 i use and highly recomend high mercury vapour bulbs for all monitors i use a 100w bulb in this setup the tiles are terracotta stacks they hold heat well are easy to clean and are cheap from bunnings i use wood as spacers there is a hollow log up the cool end as a cool end hide that is never used a water bowl and a nesting/digging box that is cool moist and humid at all times temp at the top of the stack is 70 it drops dramaticly every level of the stack and thus they spend 80% of theyre time in the stack they are fed crickets and pinkys mainly with the occasional spider, woodies, chopped day old chick as a treat pm me if you need anymore info

That's a bit harsh Matt. While we were speaking I got the impression you knew about how they were kept. I remember you answered in the affirmative when I mentioned a few things. You came back and asked what size crickets they were eating and didn't really ask much else. You really should have said that you had absolutely no idea what you were doing and I'd have been more specific. You should have been set up ready for the ackies, again I was under the impression that you were.

ackies

hi, i have quite a few ackies and i keep them all in tanks heated with ceramic heaters governed by a digital thermostat which my refrigeration mate gets me (usually a Dixel or Carel at around $100.00) i find that if i keep the hot area between 33-38 degrees and the cool spot 23 - 27 degrees with no heat at all once sundown has arrived it works the best, you have to remember that these are desert animals so you only need to put water in for them about once a week as if you leave the water dish in all the time it can raise the humidity levels, also pay very particular attention to their lighting requirements as the wrong lighting will cause them not to eat properly as well as a calcium deficiency,

Phew i was worrying that theyd freeze with the temp in the baskin spot sittin at 30 all night. Im thinkin of sittin one of thoose 150w outdoor lights over there tank to give them more warmth?? (not at night time of course lol) til i have the time to get to a petshop to buy proper things( it sucks bein out for work be4 dawn and gettin home late 6 days a week, which means most shops are shut when i have time to get to them)

Thanks for that mate, geez you know what i've noticed every next bloke has a different opinion on how they like to keep the same species of animal. i'll take every little detail on board in deciding on perfecting my enclosure for my little ackies so i can see them at there best
Thanks everyone for your input it has really helped even though i should have this already sorted before i bought em. I didn't plan on buying them, its just once i saw them i had to have one and before i knew it i had purchased a second one to go with the first.
Cheers,
MAtt
