Another Feeding Question

Hey people I know this topic has been posted a number of times now but i cant seem to find the answer to my question searching through the forums.

Q1. It's been 7 days since ive fed my 7/8month old bredli (2 pinkies), and it still hasn't showed any signs of defecating yet, would it be ok for me to feed my python again before it defecates? or should I wait for it to defecate first before feeding again?

Q2. How long does it usually take for food to enter and exit a python?

Cheers

I wait until my pythons defacate before feeding again. It really depends on how warm the enclosures are to how long it will take for them defacte (in my experience anyway).

7/8 month old could be feeding on fuzzy rats now.

Also, my coastal is 8 months old and she does not defecate that much at all. If you are still feeding it pinkies most of it will be absorbed by the snake. With fuzzies you will mainly have the fur being past through not being digested.

Thanks craig il wait then

Its still a fairly small python, the thickest part of its body is about the size of a large pinkie mice, ive read here that food given to a python should only be the size of the widest part of their body. I might try fuzzies in about half way through next month.

Are the bones of a pinkie mice soft enough to be digested and absorbed without defacating?

hi,
in my opinion you don't have to wait until they defacate, i feed mine every week no matter what, ( unless getting the adults ready for breeding ) others on here feed every 4 days, one reason for the weekly feed is as craig said, sometimes they absorb all their food, as for feeding it pinkies, i would change it onto larger food straight away, i have a pair of blonde maccies that are only about 5 months old and they are already feeding on 2 small fuzzie mice every week, if you don't feed it large enough food items it will have nothing to get rid of,
this is only my personal opinion and way of feeding, but have never had a problem over the last 4 years with feeding over 20 different snakes.

cheers,
steve..........

hi,
i forgot to say that the maccies are only about 30 cms long, they were very small when i got them, but have started to really grow in the last 2 months, they have been shedding every 2 to 3 weeks,

cheers,
steve.........

I think you are getting confused with lizards being given food no bigger than the width of their heads. Snakes can take food items much larger than they are.

Yes they can take prey items much larger than themselves but it is not always good for them. A number of complications can arrise from freeding large items. In my opinion juvs once a fortnight, adults every 2-8 weeks.

The bones of an adult rat will be almost always completely digested. Pinkie bone have no chance ;-)

I feed my juveniles every week and a half to two weeks whilst adults every 4 to 6 weeks. One particular fatty gets fed every 10 weeks (med rat) and still wont slim down, and its been on this "diet" for nearly two years.
