My woodies are starting to STINK. Even after they have been cleaned of poopies. It's never been so bad, but I think its because the colony is growing. I can't even stand it and I'm even used to cleaning up warm beardie poo!
Since I only really want woodies for the babies for gecko food (my beardies eat crix and a lot of veges), I'm wondering if its possible to cut down the colony just for breeding, and keep say 50 females and 25 or so males and stick them on heat. I know you need bigger numbers to get a big feeder colony going, but I only need enough babies pumped out to feed a couple of pairs of geckos, I don't need dozens a day. And I can keep babies off heat to stop them developing too quickly.
Is it possible or are the smaller numbers, due to time interval between broods not going to give enough babies? |

Do you think the water dish is creating too much humidity? Alternatives? Carrot? |

I thought of adding it onto your post, but some APS members are a bit touchy you see, so thought I'd better not. LOL. |

I give mine carrot, apple, zuchini or similar twice a week.
Seriously though, put some mealworms in there too, they cut the mess and smell right down.

if any is left over its thin enough to dry out so it doesnt smell, but most gets eaten straight away.
i find drying the egg cartons in the sun on cleaning day and changing the newspaper (i line the bottom) gets rid of the smell, mine hardly smell since i've been doing that,...
Tsubakai - i read last week that mealworms eat the dead roaches and/or poo which greatly reduces teh smell, havent tried it, but it does sound interesting.
