Antivenoms

I was doing some ordering for the lab and found prices on antivenoms and thought it interesting..........

black snake 18,000U --------------$1187.50
brown snake 1,000U----------------$227.50
death adder 6,000U-----------------$956.25
funnel-web 5ml----------------------$950.00
red back 500U-----------------------$97.88
sea snake 1,000U-------------------$793.75
box jellyfish 20,000U----------------$150.00
stonefish 2,000U--------------------$197.50
taipan 12,000U----------------------$1450.00
tick 10mL----------------------------$343.75
tiger snake 3,000U------------------$287.50

snake venom detection kit (3 kits)--$343.75
polyvalen (aust@PNG) 40,000U------$1587.50

For all who don't know about polyvalen antivenom this PDF is really informative and can give you a bit of an insight to what antivenom is.

i thought it was interesting enough to share

RE: Antivenoms

Very expensive stuff.
A lot of people keeping venomous snakes don't realise this and quite often, there is no antivenom in the surrounding hospitals for the snakes they're keeping. Hospitals generally only keep antivenoms for snakes in their area, eg no antivenom for taipans in sydney hospitals

I wonder how many people get bitten by sea snakes for the need for antivenom?

Name escapes me but the fella doing the sea snake research up in the gulf a year or two ago got bitten and recieved antivenom made from venom that he had collected. Not to strange really as anyone who milks snakes and is bitten more than likely had a hand in collecting the venom for their own cure.
I see brown snake antivenom has droppped in price.

In saying that, if you are bitten by a highly venamous snake and you dont have any anitvenom is there anyway i which you could still survive?

You've posted an Index.php file. You need to download the PDF to your desktop and then upload it to your post.

Thankyou Bry darling. That's so interesting. <---- easy to please. lol You are a font of information.
I was really wondering about that.

Ether - the compression bandage and trying to keep relaxed is the only way to slow the venom flow. Just keep saying to yourself "Fatalities are rare". Actually, if you use this method you buy yourself hours. The Funnelweb however - you are done in 76 minutes I was told.

There is a polyvalent anti venom that is for unidentified snakes. Sort of like a anti venom for all occasions.

You're screwed if you get tagged again. They can't use it twice on someone and can't use a specific antivenom either if u have identified the snake. Thats why they prefer to use a detection kit first.
