Arboreal Woma

After installing a branch into Willy's enclosure, mainly for decorative purposes, he has decided that if it is good for his Bredli neighbours, then he is going to give the climbing thing a go.

I found him up on his branch, and he started to get the wobblys, a bit like a kid on a push bike for the first time, so I put my hands under him and off he came.

He tells me he prefers the ground and apparently, according to him, snakes aren't meant to climb. Just repeating what I was told.

Just goes to show that the more enrichment opportunities you give your snake, the more interesting and varied their behaviour will be. I've always felt that snakes should have more space than the conventional wisdom suggests.

Good work - don't take the perch out. He might not use it again... but he might, too.

the reason is probably that he wants to get closer to the heat source rather than exhibitng 'interesting behaviour'. just a bit of conventional wisdom, i guess.

Perhaps. The general point remains - the more opportunities you give your snake to do something, the more likely they are to do it.

i have a branch in my womas enclosure and he will use it to climb into a little hanging basket i have in there but he will not generally just "sit" on the branch. Nice looking snake you have there too.

What a pretty woma MrMikk! Gorgeous photo too.

My male woma will climb whatever he can at any given opportunity no matter how high it is. I have an empty enclosure that I sometimes let him and his gf explore which has a 4.5 foot tall (and quite thick) branch in and leave him alone for 5 minutes and he's making his way up the top to perch up there! Not to mention trying to climb up onto tables and whatever else he can. It's funny to see but terrifying at the same time so I always stop him when I know what he's up to.

Thanks for your comments and compliments. I will definitely be leaving the branch in there for him, he is really inquisitive, so a little added stimulation doesn't hurt I think. He is a Ti Tree locale woma by the way.

So I wonder... how many people here have Womas that have branches to climb on and never touch them?
