Many caterpillars secrete a poisonous liquid, which birds and other animals feeding on caterpillars are well familiar with. It can cause eye-, skin- and mucous-membrane inflammation even to human beings.
if your beardie has eaten a hairy one and is not nose rubbing or acting unusual i reckon he got it down ok.
the hairy ones only sting through their hairs and i have watched animals and birds rub the hair off before eating them

Thanks ssssnakeman, he just woofed it down and didn't rub the hair off, I will keep an eye on him today and see if there is anything unusual, next time I will check the cage first, tho this is the first one that has been in there that I know of!
He may have eaten a few that I never saw, he goes out every day when the sun is out.

Just as an aside to your post - Most caterpillars are either poisonus or mimick a poisonous caterpillar. For example the beautiful monarch catepilla (the wanderer) is extremely toxic and uses the sap from the milk weed (swan plant) which is highly cardio toxic. Just eating one caterpillar could send you into cardiac arrest (although this is unlikely).
Most of the fury ones have toxic hairs on them as suggested - or they just mimick toxic ones and have hairs.... telling them apart???? No way that i know of!
Hope ya beardie is ok
