They have been raised on rats but we haven’t the room to raise rats and frozen ones are both expensive and erratic in supply. We came across some Guinea Pigs, whilst paying $22 for the last frozen rats we brought, and were wondering if Guinea Pigs were ok to feed to our snakes?
Does anybody know if these rodents have a similar nutritional value to rats or is there any special reason why we should not feed Guinea Pigs to our snakes?
Thanks

If you were to feed guinea's they would need to be juvi shorthairs, and they would be fine

Someone dobbed me in to RSPCA and QPWS. They came around to my house to investigate and okayed it. After all - kittens are domestic animals which is what we are allowed to feed our snakes. The main debate is by how the prey is to be killed before feeding to the snake. In my case i needed a gas chamber.

and Tennille, not having a go at you, just interested in what the agencies would say about it. Interesting to hear that it's all good... There are too many cats around my neck of the woods anyway, it's a real threat to domestic wildlife.

Thanks | will be fine for your snakes, although I would have thought rats would be easier to find. I wouldnt swap food unless I felt confident that future supply would be reliable. hate for your snakes to develop a taste for a rare commodity. |

If you were a member of this site in 2004 you would know what i'm talking about. There was actually a pic of my scrub Winnie eating a kitten in my gallery on here - it sparked a large debate. Ask any old member and they will be able to tell you. Quit jumping down my throat thinking you know everything. You don't know me, my reptiles or anything about my life. Don't call me a liar.
