In light of Hix post here http://www.aussiepythons.com/index.p...wtopic&t=13007 i just thought id see how many members here are active members of their local Herp society or who relies solely on the information they get from the internet.
Explain your choice too if you would like to.

hi all,
i pretty much rely on the net for information, it is not easy to dedicate to much time to one thing. other things like fishing, drinking, watching the footy are important, oh and family too

Trying to find the time is hard... (and until my kids grow up and can come along too) it will always be at the expence of my family.
I do have a family membership to the AHS - but its the time that I can't afford.
The net is a great way to get to know people but its good to also put faces to names.

Herp societies were never relevant to me as they always met when I was working. I was a chef for years so I tended to know only a few people and kept it at that. I know lots of people through rescue organisations and have to admit the internet has opened up a whole new area but basically I still have a circle of herp mad friends who have tried herps societies but cant quite make it to any meetings because of the odd hours they work. Subsequently years down the track for an antisocial bugger like me they become harder to attend.

Just can't do it - work full time, three and a half hours of travel a day, studying law full time as well and studying an editing diploma... leaves enough time for housework and a social life and my animals.

Havn't found a herp group that I can honestly say I've enjoyed. I'd prefer the net forums and talking to/visiting the snake ppl I know.

I find that i have much more luck buying and selling reptiles through the internet, and as ppl here have mentioned the net is very convenient for finding info, or just generally talking/reading about herps. I do, however, regularly attend meetings and participate in events of our local herp society (The South Coast Herp Society).

| Well, westie ate it all, but I'm happy to take the blame, it makes me feel better about having decided not to cater the meetings ever again
I'm an introverted person and am far too shy to get involved in forums or meetings.

Haven't gone to a meet but I have a long yarn with anyone I've dealt with either the breeder of the herp or rats. Boa can attest this fact I sure . I would probably turn up to a meeting If I remembered/got up early enough on saturday or sunday/or figured how to get there.
What are some of the discussions about?

I've been a member of Hawkesbury Herp Society for approx 18 mths and was at the AHS meeting 3 meetings ago. To be honest - I met more people in that 1 meeting than in 18 mths at HHS. If you live in Sydney and want to attend a herp meeting - Go to AHS. They are a great bunch of people and don't mind sharing their experiences with you. It is a shame it is mid week as I haven't been able to attend since.
PS When you do go , make sure you leave time for the drinking experience afterwards - even more beneficial.
