Badly Injured Blue Tongue

Found this big guy/girl in the driveway on the weekend soaking up some sun. Poor thing. I hope he/she recovers ok. Looks like it had a fight with a lawn mower.

I'd take it to the vet if I were you. Lots of vets treat native animals for free. They will prolly give it some fluids and antibiotics. You don't want it to be suffering.

Poor little thing

It looks awful, but if that peeled off bit isnt skull and brain I wouldn't be surprised if with a bit of careful TLC it came good. It's pretty amazing what kind of injuries these things can survive.

If you can, deffinitely take it to a vet who will be able to either clean it up a bit or bonk it on the head if thats the best thing. As others have said, they probably won't charge since it's a wild one.

I'm worried about how close it is to it's eye, I hope it doesn't swell up or get infected, causing it to go blind.

I can't believe someone didn't notice it when they were mowing (or whever they were doing)

Inflamol is a good antibiotic cream for reptile, good luck with it.

The right thing to do would be to take it a vet {prefferably a reptile vet}. They will decide wether or not it is worth saving it. Hope the bluey makes it though

You obviously haven't seen the length of my grass when I get around to cutting it!

G'day guys,

I am normally pretty hard and fast about these sorts of things - if a native animal is injured to the point where it needs human intervention, euthanise it - no if's, but's or maybe's. However, from the pretty average photo it appears that it is merely a flesh wound, and if released will most probably survive.

Cheers

Jonno
