Bearded Dragon Embryo (pics)

Checked on Phoenix's eggs today (almost three weeks into development), only to discover that one of the questionable looking eggs had swelled and the outer shell was split open. The yolk had begun to ooze out I removed it from the incubator and had a closer look.

I found this little embryo attached to the shell. You can see that it's a tiny little dragon - eyes, mouth, brain, little buds where the limbs are developing, a tail, and even a spine is visible. Amazing. I just hope the remaining 19 eggs make it all the way through incubation. The others all look pretty good at the moment, so I'm hopeful that they will hatch healthy little beardies.

Pic 1 - ventral view.
Pic 2 - dorsal view.

Wow, thats amazing. I would have never guessed a beardy from those images. Just goes to show how much development takes place within the incubation period.

The eggs will be three weeks old this coming Wednesday.

Dragon lady: Phoenix is doing well, thanks Fingers crossed the rest of her eggs are ok.

I thought it was rather fascinating, not something you get to see every day.

Probably somewhere in the vicinity of around 60 days. They're almost one third of the way through (yay)
