Beardie Growth Rate

Hey,

This little fella is the beardie I got 4 weeks ago, in the top of the photo he is 4 weeks old and in the bottom he is 7 weeks (6 weeks and 5 days to be exact). I am amazed at the amount he has grown since I got him, it is no wonder they require a huge amount of calcium and vitamins to grow properly, at this rate he is going to be a monster . That is a good thing though.

They sure do grow fast if you feed them up. Nice looking fella too and nice photoshop work! I was looking for the second photo!

I only feed him once or twice a day and only until he loses interest, but he does eat a lot at each sitting.

At the moment he is only on dusted woodies, but I do put in greens sometimes, but he only occasionally has a nibble.

Beardy Growth

they are considered to be one of the fasted growing animals. They can reach sexual maturity as early as 5months old , I think there growth rate is around 2000%percent in the first twelve months.

Depends on how much you feed though. I didnt feed mine everyday when they were growing up, every second or thirs day gave them a buch of crix and vegies in between. Still got to adult size after 12 months though..

RE: Beardy Growth

I have done a few different things raising beardies, power feeding, cooling over winter ect. If power fed they will reach full size within 12 months but are still reluctant to breed although it is possible to do so, they will grow no bigger than one that has been cooled and taken two years to reach full size. It is most important to feed any fast growing lizard, frogs as much as they want to eat.

RE: Beardy Growth

Hey Jason, I am not intending to power feed, I only have one at the moment and will probably try and breed at some stage but I am not trying to grow him quickly for breeding. What would be considered power feeding for a beardie?

RE: Beardy Growth

I too am shoked at the growth rate of Loki, my 5mth beardie. He has pretty much doubled in size in the time that i've had him.
Loki eats 2-3 woodies and anywhere from 5-12 crickets per day along with vegies & fruit and dragon pellets. Sounds like heaps but he eats it, i don't force him to eat what he dosen't want. I think they're just little food disposal units. LOL
Great liitle dragons, such character.

To me, there is no such thing as over feeding a growing beardie, feed it as much as it can eat till it's an adult then back off and change it's diet to include more greens and less bugs.
