I've heard really bad things about Crushed Walnut Shell. I've also seen photos of an autopsy performed on a dragon that had died as a result of ingesting this particular substrate. It's insides had been basically shredded to bits. I personally would never use it.

try marine carpet, you can get it from bunnings, except the one i work at coz its sold out... grrrr i want some haha its easy to clean and just get a couple of bits cut to size to swap when they get soiled, then disifect, dry and repeat whole process again!

I have used synthetic grass before.. We only used the expensive one which was really tight woven and easy to clean. It seemed ok.

Don't use walnut shell. They'll eat it, and it will impact them. Imagine those sharp things going through your gut.

Newspaper is the easiest. Marine carpet aint bad as a substitute, but you'll find yourself cursing anything other than newspaper down the line. Beardies crap EVERYWHERE... and run their tails through it too, just to create more mess.

crushed walnut shells almost killed both my girls, one was managing to squeeze out about 5 or 6 miniscule poos a day with alot of effort, the other mustve been getting shredded internally cos she would leave her vent hanging open for about 20-30 miins after pooing.

use washed play sand from bunnings if you want a loose substrate, its cheaper and clumps better for cleaning up poos,...crushed walnut is dangerous!!! (and not digestable like it said on the packet)

Agreed!

Hello,

Totally agree, only washed & sifted playsand is acceptable for loose substrate. The crushed walnut is sharp & dangerous & will up their intestines when they try to pass it. I do not recommend it at all. No matter what anyone says, it is not digestible.

Don't know who the author of this is but it also says to stay clear of walnut shell.
