Black Soil Beardies

Hi all,

Here are some pics of some black soil beardies (pogona henrylawsoni) that I got off herc earlier this year. They are about 6 months old and have grown to nearly adult size. Its still a bit difficult to sex them (well for me anyway) but it looks like they may be a pair and one of them has already bunkered down for the winter.

I really wanted to get a good shot in their cage but keep getting heaps of reflection and this was the best one

hope you all like them as much as my kids do.

Nice dragons CR.
Just make sure you keep an eye on their claws, they're probably a bit long IMO.

they are in top condition cr, well done mate. its a credit to you. going off their size I'd be surprised if they didn't breed for you this season. i wouldn't be to worried about the nails, but you can clip them if they are to sharp for the kids.

they have been eating woddies since they were big enough. Up until recently (last two months) they were getting fed woodies daily, but now its every second or third day. They still get veges every day though.

I wouldnt be suprised if they breed this season either, but Ive tried to keep the heat up so they dont brumate and get in the mood. One of them has definetly decided thats its winter and hasnt come out of his hide for several weeks despite having some heat 24/7.

An obvious reflection of awsome husbandry . Well done CodeRed. They must be very happy

Out of interest CodeRed, what do you use for UVB if you dont mind me asking?

Cheers

Matt

UV comes from a 100 W MVB during winter. During summer I had to use one of those UV-B compact fluros as the tank was getting too hot with the MVB.

Thanks CodeRed. Dare say that 100w MV bulb played an important part in the amazing growth of them Beardies  They really are worth it

Cheers mate.

Yeah the MVB may have helped a little but it may also have something to do with the all roaches they were getting

In hind-sight I would feed them a little less, but these were my first lizards and I was just guessing how big they should be and how much they should be eating.
