BLACK SOIL PLAINS

Hi,
Would anyone (and I know that you are an adventurous lot out there) have any photos of the Black Soil Plains in Queensland!

Need to know what the area looks like where they find the Pygmy Dragon!

Thanks in advance!
You can pm me if you like , but I can only access this site on the weekends.

Fay

You'll be lucky Fay, almost all the black soil plains have been cleared for farming now.
Basically flat grassland prone to flooding.

The black soil plains are flat nearly tree-less(except along water courses) spongey plains with deep cracks(when dry) and holes everywhere. The dragons take advantage of anything with a bit of height over the grass, usually fence posts ans culvits on the sides of roads.

Pike,

Great photos of the plains & the Beardies that I assume you found there.

Are they Downs Bearded Dragons - Pogona henrylawsoni :

Fay,

The grass species is Mitchell Grass.
I have a mate who vegetates his pits with it to make his
Henrylawsons (as he calls them) feel at home.
He reckons they occasionally eat the seed.

Thanks for the species confirmation Pike.

They look like a lovely little species. Great temperament in the hand for wild specs.
I've been told they're very tame as pets too, especially if you've been the sole keeper from hatchling size.

Good on ya for sharing.

Cheers, zen
