Just wondering what you would do to keep your herps warm inthe case of a blackout ? obviously if it was only for an hour or so no drama's, but i mean a serious one.

I would imagine it depends on location and climate.

If you are really desperate, I've heard of people grabbing those chemical heating packs from Army disposal stores and keeping those ready for such an emergency

I did a quick search for them and unfortunately only came up with this dicky looking one 50 degrees in a few seconds isn't that bad, and re-usable! There are probably better ones that last longer out there...beats me

Hot water bottle, that would be the cheapest solution.

Considering the bush fire season is predicted to be quite bad this year blackouts should be expected in bush fire risk areas. We've been blacked out for almost two weeks in the past from bush fires. We are regularly are blacked out for several hours when there are severe storms. There also has been talk about rolling blackouts because supply cannot meet demand, however the authorities have not stated how long these blackouts will last for yet.

Connecting a generator to your power box is possible but is expensive. A portable generator may be an option.
