i liked the idea of a wet cloth under the heat source to give a higher humidity

Keep an eye on him and see wear he hangs out over the next few days, if he's under the heat source alot this could mean it's not warm enough in the cage, theres no problem with putting the hide in the middle of the enclosure.
You should see him using the whole cage, basking, cooling off down the cool end, sitting on the branches, using the hide etc, if he's doing that them your temps are pretty right.

You can add a rock when comes up for shed, but i would bother leaving it in their all the time.

Al,
no harm in putting a hide in either end of the enclosure. That way he can choose where he wants to go.

Water bowl definately at the cool end. As I told ya, I put the hides at the warm end but that is up to you.
Don't worry about a rock, they really don't need a rough surface to shed, they will use the side of the cage, the dowels, themselves and whatever.
