Blue tongue question

On our way to our daughters little athletics tonight we just missed hitting a wild blue tongue lizard, thanks to Damien swerving to avoid (lucky it was us being herp lovers Damien stopped and i got out and stood behind it so it ran off the road and into a bush in someones front yard, which i guess is lucky as a 4WD just turned onto the road and could have easily hit it

So here is my question, we are in the southern suburbs of SA and this blue tongue lizard was really gorgeous very dark stripes on it, the ones we have seen before don't have as prominent stripes, so i guess my question is, is it common for a blue tongue in this location to be striped like that?

FWIW next time we go down that road i will be putting the digi in my handbag as this blue tongue was gorgeous to look at and i would say easily 35cm long if not 40cm
