[quote=serenaphoenix;1061161]That, in my personal opinion is crap.

You don't get bone disease from heating... it's the same in humans - if you don't get enough calcium (or don't absorb calcium properly) then you get osteoporosis... bone disease.

Heating plays a huge part in a reptiles calcium levels, no if's or buts about that.

so the uv light magicly brakes down calsium and sends it where its needed......
reptiles use heat, the hotter they are the quicker they break down food.
to brake calium down and absorb it they need heat because they are reptiles not humans

you need D3 to absorb the calcium - you need heat to break down food, but it's the vitamins and minerals that help to absorb the vital components within that food - it's not that hard to break down almost pure calcium when you're powdering insects... which is where they get most of their calcium from.

yes jason - absolutely, heat is vital

but the statement was improper heat is the cause of MBD....

it is not THE cause, it's part of the cause... because you need to be able to digest CALCIUM... which is THE cause...

I kept all my dragons for 5 years totally inside without any UV, bred about 600 with UV free dragons, raised about 20 of them to adulthood like that. It was only this year they are getting the full UV treatment, all but my holdback hatchies, which I'll raise without UV. The Blueys I've kept were raised indoors till they were adults.
