Boydii

I believe I have all the necessary information regarding the healthy maintenance of these particular (stunning!) agamids, but I'm posting this thread to ask for any tips and experiences people have with this species.

Very little information seems to be available on these, so any information is appreciated!

Thanks everyone.

Pretty simple to look after depending on where you are.

Sydney and upwards require nothing more than an enclosure (mesh or wood or glass) and keeping it pretty humid. No heat supplied at all. Feed as per other agamids.

South though you will need heating, 40 watt globe or heat cord works well.

There amazing animals and should be more common in the next few years.

Thanks pugsly

Hmm. You say mesh though. That would make it quite difficult to maintain the requisite humidity, would it not? Then again, maybe not if you live in the tropics. And I suppose with the use of moss and plants you could still retain a fair bit.

I'll also add that I'm in Brisbane.

Actually, I do have one more specific question as well. How are these sexed and at what age are they able to be sexed? I'm assuming not until 12 months, but that's mere assumption. I also understand that males tend to have "boofier" heads, but are there better ways to determine sex?

Yeah its very hard indeed, even as adults can be hard, besides like most agamids the males get bigger than the females, have a boofier head etc.

I think you need to XRay to be certain but some people can tell by looking at there underneath.

yeah one tip - they really are damn hard to sex. I bought 5 sexed adults and three of them were incorrectly sexed. It wasn't an issue for me as I still managed a good breeding pair but if you only bought a couple you could end up in a spot of bother. Therefore, my only suggestion would be to buy a group of four.

haha. Okay, thanks Peter :-)

I'm only getting a pair of hatchies--unsexed, of course. Sounds like x-ray might be the way to go.

When using x-rays for sexing, is age still an issue, or can they be sexed at any age, via an x-ray?

I'm taking a bit of a risk, of course, getting hatchies, but I'm not overly concerned about sex. If I end up with two of the same, I'd hope to get females, as I'd probably find it easier to swap a female for a male, I figure, but there's not much I can do about it, so I'll just wait and see
