Bredli a good choice for first snake?

hi all, i am in the research stage for a first snake and had a few questions about Bredlis,,

how big do they grow and are they fast growers?
is it much harder to handle the larger snakes than say a Childrens?
how much damage do they do if they bite when larger? (have read they are very calm though)
do they constrict when they bite? Constrict any time? (do other snakes?)

sorry for the dumb questions but searching hasnt answered them and before i make a choice i want to make sure i know what im getting in for. Thanks......

1. They grow pretty quickly and they grow around 2.7m 2. No its not but larger snakes' bites do hurt more and they are much stronger and need more attention given. (like being careful) 3. A bit can be fairly deep and sometimes a tooth can get stuck which CAN end in an amputation if its not cared for (but thats only in really bad cases and iv never heard of it happening to anyone). 4. Yes they do constrict when they bite especially when they think your hand is food. That is the bad part of a big snake. The bigger the stronger and the less chance you have of getting it off you. But most Bredli are placid snakes and don't normally bite.Over all they are great snakes and iv never heard of anything worse than a bit of blook with a bite. But it all depends on how you treat it.. hope this helps.

the amputation has only happened once that i can remember.. a mate of mine got bitten by a large diamond python and a tooth got stuck roughly 2cm under the skin.. he didnt do anything about it til his whole arm turned bacl and he ended up getting his hand amputed..

Amputation i started looking at the spotteds but just love the look of the Bredlis. As i have a 7 year old i was a bit concerned on the size of Bredlis and the fact i have no experience with snakes i might have to reconsider. Thanks for your reply...

All snakes can bite, whether it's due to stress, cage "protection" strikes or a food response. They all can bite regardless of the species so I wouldn't let that fact hinder your decision. From personal experience though, Morelia species (bredls, carpets etc.) hurt more than any other species regardless of size.

Here is the result of a food response bite given to my father by a 5foot Bredli.......Ahhh, the joys of watching your olds clean quarentine cages

Manie, we have 2 Bredli and they are just great. They are our first snakes & I thoroughly recommend them. Our kids are 9yo & 11yo. They are fine with them. Pics of Wanambi doing his Kaa[ from Jungle Book] & Calliope.

Way to scare people

My knuckle has been sore ever since I was bitten by my bredli a few weeks ago, and at certain points it feels like theres too much pressure and I cant bend it. Not sure if theres a tooth stuck or if shes just damaged something else, I would have thought there would be swelling etc though if it was a tooth as the body tries to reject it?

haha lol vixenbabe..i just want to make it clear that ampuation does NOT happen regularly at all it is just a case of bad luck if you rip out a tooth and it gets stuck 2cm under your skin.. also i have been bitten by a 2.5m diamond and the worst thing that happened as it stung for like 10 mincs.. it also left pretty cool teeth marks but everything was ok..
