Bredli Q'S

hello APS,
I am finally narrowing down what i am going to get as a first snake, hence, i have some questions about bredlis;
Do they handle well?
Approx price for a normal hatchy?
Full grown enclosure size?
What heat source/wattage should be used to heat an adult bredli enclosure?
Do they need UV?
Full size?
What are they fed when full grown, juvy and hatchy?
Also, any enclosure pics(tubs or enclosures) are greatly appreciated
Cheers

Dylan

Do they handle well? Hatchies can be very snappy, but they generally settle right down once they reach about 3-4ft.

Approx price for a normal hatchy? $250-300.

Full grown enclosure size? 4ft x 2ft x 2ft.

What heat source/wattage should be used to heat an adult bredli enclosure? Ceramic heat emitters, 60-100W depending on the cage/ambient temps etc.

Do they need UV? No.

Full size? 6-9ft

What are they fed when full grown, juvy and hatchy? You can start them on fuzzy mice or pink rats, then work your way though up to large rats and then onto guinea pigs/rabbits etc.

Also, any enclosure pics(tubs or enclosures) are greatly appreciated. I've attached a pic of a cage i currently use for adult bredli. Also a pic of some tubs suitable for juvenile/yearling bredli.

bredli are a great snake.ill definatly get one when i move out of my parents house.. along with a beauty Death Adder.. cant beat some of those beauty colours.. anyway bredli (like i said) are fantastic snakes and make great pets. I have never heard of a snappy bredli (other than the bites that MoreliaMatt and MrBredli have posted).. and other than that they have beautiful colours..

not too sure on cage size but i think it will be similiar to a MD..

1. They're one of the more recommended species as their general temperament is fairly placid. My girl was extremely snappy as a hatchie, and it took her about 6 months or so to calm down. She does get a little flighty from time to time, but I trust anyone to handle her.

2. Sub $500. Depends on whether you want a hypo or not. $300 for a regular I think.

3. 4x6 foot should be good. They're semi arboreal, so they do like to climb around.

4. It's hard to tell. It depends on the ambient temp of the room. The enclosure should be about 28 cool end, 36 hot end, so they can thermoregulate to a steady 32.

5. The verdicts out on that, but seeing as how they're natural climate is quite hot, and they're not purely nocturnal, many people (and respected vets) do recommend it. Sunning your snake every 3 days or so should be fine, but if you don't, you probably should get a UVB lamp.

6. 7-8 feet for males, 8-9 feet for females. Don't let that put you off, they're not particularly fast growers, so you'll have plenty of time to adjust to it before it gets too big.

7. Mice and rats mainly. The general thing you'd feed a python really. My girl is approaching 2 years now and she's on medium rats.

I'll post pics if I get a chance. She's currently in a 3ft enclosure, the one she's been in since I got her, but i'm shopping around for something bigger now.

Oh, and if anyone wants to correct or dispute any of my comments, you're most welcome. I'm no expert, and this is mainly information i've gathered while owning my own Bredli.

Thanks for the quick reply everyone,
So when their an adult a 4x2x4(lxdxh)Is adequate?
Also, when they are an adult can you vary feedings like once every 10 days and like give 2 rats, then a rabbit, then 2 rats, then a chick, and etc etc?
More than likely going to get one soon, just need the money first

It's a heat panel and a basking shelf.

Yeah, should be ok.

Could do. I feed my girl once every 2 weeks. Don't want her getting a fatty liver now. Rabbits might be a tad big though.

That is a radiant heat panel from the Herp Shop. The plan was for that to be the sole heat source for the enclosure, but it wasn't producing enough heat so i had to put the light in on the other side. The heat panels were never used once the bredli went in, and were eventually removed and sold.
