Ashley, I would change all "dirty" parts as soon as they are found and would do a full change at least once a month. I was using this in my enclosures but have decided to use paper towel or newspaper as I don't believe it to be the most hygenic method for me or the snakes. That said there are alot of very experienced herpers who use it.

Cheers.

RE: Re: RE: breeders choice litter

Ashley,

That's bloody cheap if you ask me. I buy it wholesale by the pallet load and I pay more then that.

Check the bag again. Was it 40 kg's or 40 litres. I am betting 40lts.

As for changing, I remove any faeces daily and add at little extra if needed. I do a complete change on every cage at about every 3 months, or earlier if needed(specially with elapids)

RE: Re: RE: breeders choice litter

Our last lot we picked up were bags of 13.3 kg or 40 litres, $17 a bag...

We do as Bigguy does... remove faeces daily, topping up if needed and complete change every 3 months depending on the messes, maybe sooner...

RE: Re: RE: breeders choice litter

yep, spot clean atleast once a day. The odd top up here and there and a total change every 3 months or so. When I top it up, I move all the older stuff down one end in the beardies cause they are messy eaters.

Ashley

I thought I was correct. If I wasn't, I wanted to know where you were getting it so cheap. Could have saved a lot of money. Damm

For those intrested, Northmead Petbarn (96301600) has
bc at $19.50 per bag (13kg/40 litres)
5 bags @ $18.50
10 bags @ $17.50
20 bags @ $16.50

Barring that you might call Fibercycle direct. Their head office is in S.A but they take orders from Qld ph. (07) 55004344 ask for Dianna

Nah I don't use it anymore either, one bag came with 1/2 dozen of those big mutha weevils in it another bag contain a sharp piece of metal that I can only assume was once a staple.

Has anyone ever had a problem using Breeders Choice? I used them with Blue Tongues twice and it seemed weird that both times i used it they got mites. I haven't used it since and nothing else has ever gotten mites (touch wood). Was this just a coincidence? I keep everything clean like it's a quarantine station.
Why dont you like it Snakewrangler?

Re: RE: Re: RE: breeders choice litter

The $17 per bag is at the pet barn SE of Melbourne. I reckon if you wanted a reasonable quantity you could negociate a bit with them on the price.

I have tried a sample bag of a similar product which was ok. It looked exactly the same except the pellets looked as if they were crinckle cut (well crinkle compressed). I wonder if the price will come down if there is some real competition in the market?
