ive never bred reptiles and was wondering can you breed together brother and sister or daughter and dad staff like that? does this cause problems when doing it i know it does in the dog and cat world but wasnt sure if retiles are different.

Sibling breeding will create defects , sometimes not obvious ones, but you can go sire to daughter, dame to son etc... then go out to unrelated & come back ... grandfather to grand daughter ... but you will need to skip a generation before coming back to grandfather.... creates good line breeding...
My opinion quite often isnt everyones...

most reptiles can be bred for quite a few generations without any defects at all.

Probably because your opinion is normally based on assumptions rather than facts.
There are some breeders in Australia with 10th generation Antaresia, that are more inbred than a family from Gatton, but not quite as inbred as a family from Dalby (sorry Den!).

What are people's reasons for inbreeding?
I can understand if they are trying to work on a particular genetic trait - colour/pattern etc, but for what other reason would people want to inbreed?

Only going by visual..... have seen bro - sis hatch of beardies many years ago ... that survived
1 had brain damage & 2 others had extra digits.... no thanks
I do understand others opinions ... when so many breed & you cant be absolutely sure how close the lines of your stock are....
Jonno........ yes lines with reptiles are safer bred than other species... but i would rather not
its very nice that you speak of me in a manner before you find out for my reasoning
ummm.... thinks that is called bad p.r!
I did say that was my opinion...but yet again some would rather be self opinionated saying their way is the ONLY WAY!!!....... eyes wide open leads to a better understanding of others
and then some are just one eyed!.....dont mean to be rude but really!
