What am proposing is that we can offer our herps to each other on a temporary basis for breeding purposes in order for us to breed our animals with each others. If you see someones herp you like and think it would look good crossed woth yours and they offer it for breeding then we can send one across and there you go.......What do we think?...of course the finer details will be worked out as we go if there are enough people interested... |

I don't want to sound negative but that aspect would need looking at very closely.

i agree with boa, i have tryed this 2 times, once with a bearded dragon and ones with a coastal, both times were not very good, the dragon ended up bringing mites to my male which took me ages to get rid of, when i asked the question, i was told, yes i have had little black things on my dragons,
the other time was with a coastal and it still didn't work out, we had the male, they had a female, after it was all done the other person started changing the arrangements, to cut it short, we ended up deciding never to share any reptiles for breeding again,
it might work, but unless you really know the other persons reps are healthy you would be taking a big risk, also what happens if one reptile dies,
i like the idea but after doing it myself there are just so many things that can go wrong,
cheers,
steve...............

Perhaps we could have a forum that is similar to the for sale section for breeding loans. We could call it available and wanted loans?
Having a forum for this i think would be the first and only step that a third party should take, all else would have to be upto the individuals who take part, including risks and freight etc.
Yeah the more i think about it the better i think the idea of having a forum devoted to this is a good idea.

Say you want to borrow a female snake and the person paid $300 for it you could either:
A) Put a $300 deposit on the snake which insures that the person who lent the snake is getting atleast what they paid for the snake if something was to go wrong,If the snake is bought back in the condition it left then the $300 PLUS atleast 50% of the clutch would be given.
B)Both sign a contract saying the snake left in good condition etc and any problems would be paid for by the person who wants the lend.
There would always be the fact of people saying the female only laid 5 eggs when she really laid 10.
Just something to think about but i think in theory its a great idea |

No different from the for sale forum,You buy a dodgy snake from the for sale forum and APS is not responsible. |

I mean it does all come down to the individuals but I would certainly be looking for people interested. Wauikazi I have to say that is a great idea of how to do it. I don't have all the answers for this and something like that would be excellent. i have been thinking of it for a while because I see a lot of people posting pics of some spectacular looking herps and sometimes they may only have a male or female and it would be a shame to see such good looking lineage go to waste. Maybe one of the Admins or Mods could have a look or offer some advice on this subject??? Hey guys and Gals? |
