You may get the odd deformity but it will be much more likely to occur from incubation problems rather then breeding related individuals.

its to do with the genetic stability, reptiles have been around on this earth many millions of years longer than humans and mammals full stop so the genetics are more stable and less likley to randomly mutate. May not be correct but its what i have gathered from what i have been told.

Alot of the time that is how they get the great colours and markings by breeding bro and sis or bro and mum and so on sounds wrong but thats how alot of good snakes come about.

Ive been told its fine to do as long as you cross out the bloodlines after about the 5th generation but Not shore if this is necessary or just done as a safety measure.Cheers Craig

Its a phylosophical arguement not a technical one. In mamals and reptiles it is called line breeding and may emphasise a heritable trait. The hope is that it emphasises the "good" trait rather than the bad. Different traits have different heretability so once the numbers are out there you can work out the likely progress in line breeding. The numbers and records with reptiles are so scanty which leaves a lot more to chance.
