callibrating thermostats

i have recently purchaced both the microclimate b1 and b2 and have had to callibrate the temperature control. nowhere on the web page does it mention this. the small temperature tweaking slot doesn't have an arrow to show what temperature i've chosen. for instance in the picture below the night temp could be either 0 or 10 degrees?????? also i have found that the night temperate scale is out according to my digital thermometer. has any one else had these issues? i paid close to $200 for my dimming thermostat, i would have thought for this price i would have got much better accuracy. what do you think?

Ok firstly, the night dial isnt designed to be your not temp, it is the dial that drops the standard dial by in temp.
ie normal dial set at 30 and night dial set at 5, then it drops the standard dial to 25.

Other than that, yeah i have found the majority of thermostats are never accurate to what the dials say. So it is always best to set your thermostat off your thermometer. This is the best and most accurate way.

hope that helps

Cheers

With just about all herp thermostats you need to calibrate them against a thermometer, don't go off the dial reading. With the night temp, if you swivel it right around you will soon find which temp it is really pointing at.

thanks sloth head and junglepython2, i really thought that it wouldn't have been that hard to make a little arrow on one end of the tweaking slot that you swivel round. i guess overestimated my purchase. oh well i hope it is right now.

With all my thermostats i find them out by one or two degrees to my thermometer. The most important reading is your thermometer the thermostats readings are only indicative.

Even with the Habistat thermostats which are meant to be accurately calibrated I would will be using thermometers for fine tuning. In my incubator I have multiple thermometers and a data logger to keep track of and fine tune the thermostat.

If I was you i would get myself a digital thermometer with probe. You can calibrate the thermometer by placing it in a slurry (ice and water) place the slurry in the fridge -not freezer. In a short while the slurry should be a constant 0-degrees. Place the probe of the thermometer in the container, leave for about half an hour. The temp should read 0- degrees. If the temp is up or down which should only be a fraction or so mark variation on your thermometer. of course the accuracy of your thermometer is more important when incubating, but hopefully this will give you a good indication of whether your thermometer is working.
