At what age can you feed them to your python? Are they as beneficial as rodents? And has anyone fed them to Jungles? |

The benefits are they are cheaper than rodents and chicken, when skin is removed, is lower in fat. They do not have the smorgasboard of nutrients that whole animals do. I believe that if they are used as a staple diet the animal will suffer in someway. Every second feed I would offer a smaller rodent and a few chicken necks rather than one appropriate sized rodent. You could try a jungle on them as soon as it is large enough to consume a feed the size of the neck. I wouldn go buying 5 kilos of necks just yet tho as some carpets won't go for them. If you get them going on necks now it will be easy to get them on day old chicks when they are old enough. |

It goes through the pump easily, and is made of dense muscle, which contains much less water than a pink. This means they get more nutrition from the same amount of food. We sometimes give the bigger pythons and snakes a spare chicken heart, but I wouldnt do it all the time! (it looks funny when they eat it too!)
(If you try feeding a heart, make sure you cut off the fatty stuff that hangs off it)

I've fed chicken necks & just gauged it from the size of the rat that a particular snake could be given. Chicken necks are fairly big though & i've never given one to a python that's under about a year old.
I've tried them with all my decent sized snakes : Childreni & Bredli loved em . My Jungles & my Diamond didn't go for them at all.
I don't feed them as a regular thing , just grab a few at the butcher every now & then.
If you do it , check that they don't have sharp splintered bone sticking out of one end though. | | |
