Is there a prefered method for getting them smooth, is that necessary, is there a commonly used wood for this? In regards to getting them clean and sterile etc... prefered methods for that, products to use?
Basically any information on the subject would be very helpful

I use some bleach and boiling water to clean them. Rinse well if you use bleach.

When the branch is dried out enough (bark splitting or starting to peel off in a few places) debark it with a sharp knife, dry it out some more (leave mine in the garage out of the elements), cut it to size & then paint it with an exterior (UV Stable) combined stain/varnish. Drill a couple of holes through it and bolt it through the back of your cage - looks great, provides a sturdy climbing area for your snake as they grow bigger & is easy to clean. |

But it in a black plastic bag and left it out in the sun for a day (in summer) to kill any mites or bugs. I left all the rough bits on it and every knob or rough bit has skin on it during shedding so i find it is useful to leave them rough.
