Hi all we've been getting our CO2 euthanasia gas locally for the last couple of years. I think its about $40 or so for a refill, and $104 rent annually. Darn expensive as we go through about 1/2 doz cylinders per year. I just queried BOC gases re buying a cylinder, and they reckon they don't sell em. If they did, we'd have to pay for retesting of cylinder, paint jobs etc, etc. Then they said that some companies sell them, and then it takes a fortnight to get your refill back? Bugga that, we need ours same day if not the day before LOL! Will make some more enquiries and see how we go.

Have you thought about getting a bigger cylinder, would that work out cheaper in total.

This has been described to me as the same as broken glass pumping thru your body. I have spoken to some one who was just freezing live rats until he opened his freezer 24hrs later and found one still alive. He decided way to cruel. Food for thought anyway!!

| hi cheryl,
we tried buying our own also, we talked to our local home brew shop, but the gas company won't fill them, the nearest place was townsville or brisbane, as we are at least 6 hours from both, it wasn't worth the hassel,
cheers,
steve.........

When I first got into herps, I bred mice and was told by a pet shop that you should just shove them in a freezer. I did this for a while and found it too cruel. I have since got rid of the mice and found out the correct way to do it.

Well, sorry to say that Pinkie Mice and Rats, well they just won't gas as their lungs aren't developed properly, so we put them in the snap lock bags, then before we do the snap lock thing up we squeeze all the air out of the bags, and then they go to sleep straight away with no oxygen. We don't put em live in the bags in our freezers, no way. Too cruel.

I would rather drown the rats, it would be quicker than freezing thats for sure.

Yeah huggy, but we can't freeze em when they are wet or sweaty. They have to be nice and dry for the customers.
