coastal colour fade?

At the risk of getting pounced on.....I have to ask:
do coastals fade as they get older.. i would assume that they would loose the majority of their 'brightness and depth' as my hypo girl had a bright red belly and now at the age of 5months has a very pale pink belly.
would a deep chocolate brown coastal fade as it gets older to a wishy-washy nothingness or would it hold its colour, what do you think?

pretty much all carpets look a lot different as juviniles and change with every shed untill they are a year or two old.

Yeah normally with coastals, 12-24 months and their colour and pattern are there, but like most pythons and snakes they darken over winter and lighten over summer for the rest of their lives.

if your carpet is a 'hypo' now it will turn out pretty much the same as any normal looking coastal as an adult

so if i wanted to breed some stunning looking coastals some time down the track, would i be better off aiming for pattern over colour or is it all just pot luck?

Splitmore, what you are talking about are what I call reds, they are very common in clutches of QLD carpets and as you say are not hypos. Some times most of the clutch will be reds but virtually all will turn in to normal carperts. True hypos are weird ugly things when first hatched and take a few sheds to start looking good, and none look like normal carpets as adults.

purplethingy, colour and pattern can be bred for but it takes a few generations of selective breeding from the same lines to garantee what a hatchling will look like as an adult, carpets are so variable its not funny and one pair can produce an array of different colour and pattern morps in the same clutch.

TB i could well imagine it would be frustrating if you were breeding for something specific but on the other hand it would be a bonus (bit like winning the lotto) if you got a ripper clutch that you werent expecting.
