Colour range of coastal young

What is the normal color range of juvenile coastals? I've seen them from dark red to light brown. And would it be possible to tell if a hatchling is a hybrid?

My Coastal is black with tannish stripe markings. Not like the "standard" brownish Coastals I tend to see everywhere else.

Easiest way to tell if its crossed with a jungle i was told, is the inside of its mouth will be a bluey/purple colour, coastals have pink mouths. And they can have the jungle mask, i have two hybrid jungle x coastals here and both have blue mouths.

cheers

With the natural colour variations in the Coastals from different locations I reckon it would be very difficult Fuscy.

Hate to tell you this but you need full stops, commas and things to punctuate a sentance. Hope this helps

coastals vary as hatchies, the qld/brissie forms seem to be more reddy as hatchies, and the northern nsw forms tend to be darker bordering on black sometimes. As far as coastals go it can be difficult to tell and with all the hybrids out there now, i think true coastals will be hard to come by.

Cheers

When you say true coastals do you mean area form coastals or coastals in general? There are plenty of people with coastals that know their origins.

A Townsville or Cairns coastal crossed with say a Brissie is still a true coastal.....

i know area coastals when interbred are not hybrids, the blue mouth and mask etc is a trait bred into coastals when they are crossed with jungles/athertons, and this is becoming ever more frequent in coastals on the market, with buyers neglecting to tell purchasers that they are in fact hybrids.

Nope Mick, some localities of coastals have red hatchlings. They change colours in their first year usually.
