I've seen some really red pure coastals....

What i've found interesting is that Proserpines which are just area form coastals but they have the definite skull and cross bones head pattern or mask just like jungles.

It is all wishy washy observations based on colour and pattern. The phenotypic variation in carpet snakes is massive to say the least, hence their sub species name "variegata"

Without genetically mapping every population in the country so as you could theoretically compare samples with, we will never know the origins of our animals. This would be hugely expensive and will never happen.

So the only people who know what they have in terms of bloodlines and the rest are those who captured the animals themselves.

All our animals came from wild stock originally and there are still people breeding from the original lines.

Variegata is the old classification.....

yeah for Queenslanders that is pre 1974. Do you honestly think people have kept an eye on the lines for that long? Be realistic.

It is well known that there has been juvenile carpets that are meant to be nearly 30 years old!

Easiest way to tell if its crossed with a jungle i was told, is the inside of its mouth will be a bluey/purple colour, coastals have pink mouths.
Picked up what I thought was a plain old coastal today with a blue mouth, were can I read more?
Cheers

it is a case of each to their own I personally wouldn't get to caught up in the whole bloodline debate, especially when it comes to x's between coastals and jungles. For me! At the end of the day it comes down to wether I like the look of the snake I am purchasing or trading. I couldn't really care what species they told me it was as long as it is legal and good looking then that's good enough for me. They could tell me it is a pygmy, dwarf possum squeezing snot picking turd muncher for all I care so long as it is clooured nice lol.

As I said each to their own. (shutup Afro) lol
