confused

i have been having trouble getting my coastal to eat frozen food, she won't have anything to do with it the only time she has eaten one was when i microwaved it then i was told never to do it again because of the readiation i have tried sitting it under the sun until it warms to the right temp and even blowdrying it lol ( aunty's idea) and even then she just moves away . i know i can't feed her live food so i need another idea. im really starting to get worried

It's nothing to do with radiation, you can't get radiation sickness from microwaved food, it is because the microwave cooks meat from the inside and can speed up the growth of harmful nasties. If you want it thawed and still warm just put it in warm water.

Radiation? That's a new one.The reason I don't use a microwave is because the rats sometime explode.
The best method is to thaw them out in warm/hot water. (Not too hot though or they can still explode)

I had similar problems with a Port Mac hatchie years ago. I thawed a pinky rat in a freezer bag, in some warm water. Fed the snake a live rat (pinky) then immediately followed up with the thawed one. She took it straight away and after doing this two times, she was eating thawed 100% from then on and never looked back!

I agree with Greebo. Grab a ziplock bag to put them in so they dont get wet.

Rodent guts splattered all over you Mum's microwave will not impress her.

Thaw them out in hot tap water....not boiling water from the kettle as it cooks them.
They have to be thawed and warmed all the way through....the snake can detect it and not eat it if it is still cool inside.

make sure the rat is supple (ie can flex it easily and is soft in the middle) before u feed. try to get it to around the typical body temp of a mammal, this way it will be warmer than the snakes surrounds so it will see it easier

Another idea that was suggested to us for our fussy Jungle was to use some vitamin spray on a fresh killed (only the smallest amount at first). Over several weeks we slowly increased the amount of vitamin and then started using defrosted rats with the spray (it stinks like nothing I've ever melt before) and whal-ah... He is now all excited when we walk in the room with a sprayed rat (he must be able to smell the spray from the kitchen)

Many many years ago I had used to microwave and had a couple ofmice just pop. Now I either use freshly killed or defrosted food items for my snakes. I find it easyer to put the frozen item in a sink full of luke warm water. Give it enough time for the whole body yo be the same temperature then try feeding.

try the live pinky method as stated by nightowl, you will find that it works fine.
