I usually use the ones with the blue clips on the lid - and then tape the clips to buggery as well...

I generally use packing tape and then a layer of masking tape over the top so that I can write on it easier - labels, care warnings, recipient etc...

Small styrofoam eskies are not an acceptable way to ship animals.Depending on who serves you at AAE they might even refuse to ship it.Timber/ply boxes or hard plastic boxes able to take a lot of weight on them are what the regulations state.

Virgin decided to ban the freighting of reptiles years ago because some einstein packed a monitor or some such into a foam esky. The animal ended up escaping in the cargo hold of the plane.

That is really weird as I recieved some BHP in styrofoam boxes just recently via AAE. These were sent by Neil Sonnermann and I am sure he didn't have any issues. I have also shipped both fish & reptiles in these myself with no problems in the past and even planned to do so in the future under the assumption that this would be fine. I think I better double check the AAE website & read the rules before planning any shipments.

ive got my geckos in a styrofoam box, inside a little plastic tub with newspaper shavings surrounding it.

my bhp came in a eski with the lid screwed on,
really liked the eski idea, it was light and very very strong.

it was full of peices of shredded newspaper and the snake was in a bag ontop of that.

make sure u put lots of air holes in... ive noticed both times they cover half of them taping peices of paper down

You're spot on with the air holes Arbok, they tape a heap of paperwork onto the box.

I know a lot of you are saying you have had good things happen with foam eskies, polystyrene boxes etc....

I would just prefer to err on the side of caution and go with the timber for some added strength. I don't put a lot of faith in the freight handlers, and I hope I am not being unjust by saying that, fear of the unknown I guess. But, I like my snake to be safe and secure, air travel is stressful enough for them.

i just sent my jungle python hatchie from brisbane to townsville through AAE... they said it had to be a wooden container... if its less than 2 kgs with the snake it only costs around $70... this is the container i used... the dimensions are 30x20x20cms (LxWxH) which even that was wayyy big... we just filled up the extra space with shreded newspaper
