I think you have to have held a particular license for a year or something before you can get your advanced license - which allows you to get a croc

What other reptiles have you kept?
Your sig says '1 male jungle - comming soon' which leads me to believe you are still new to keeping reptiles.

If this is the case, i dont reccomend jumping the gun so to speak.
Wait awhile, get used to keeping other species first.

BTW- its spelt crocodile not corcodile

hey, im in vic, have 3 crocs, alot of maintinance, not something you want to jump straight into if your not exsperienced, i would recommend seeing how you go with a monitor first. i first got a croc when i was 15 and was very unexsperienced, a salty just over a metre, i didnt know what i was getting myself into, ended up selling him a year later. i now have a salty about the same size, and a couple of freshy hatchlings, the freshies are good, only get to around 2-2.5 metres, so they are the smallest you can get in australia, an adult male salties can grow to 6 metres easily, and its thought they could get to 7 maybe even 8. if your just starting out with reptiles... pace yourself, start small and work your way up.

the freshies are house in a 5ft by 1 ft tank(they are only 25cms), and the salty is currently in a 6ft by 2ft tank. hes getting a little big for that, so im currently upgrading the spare room, to an indoor enclosure for him, which will last him until he is about 2 metres.

You can keep them in Vic, and you only need an advanced licence to keep them.
I keep both monitors and crocs and IMO crocs are way easier to look after. Put a good filtration on the croc tank and it beats cleaning the paper, walls, glass and anything else in the monitors enclosure ever 2nd day.
Little fuss really, feed and keep the water temp above the mid 20's and ambient air temp during the day at mid to high 30's.
You can buy them at an early age but would recommend an older one if you are going to freight them in from somewhere as they are real sooks when they are under 12 months old.

How big of an enclosure would you need if you wanted to keep one for the duration of its life?

well, when my freshies get to full grown, the salties room will be converted to a room, with an outdoor damn etc for them on hot days, seeing as we are in melbourne and weather is unpredictable and very different from there natural climate, you cant house them completly outside. 5 by 10 metre outdoor damn with a indoor 8 by 6 metre room. heated pool indoor with a heat spot and somewhere to escape the heat if need be. an adult salty would need double, if not triple that.

Duration would mean for a Freshy around 50 years.
Pretty much the same as mckellar has said, heaps of room for your critter to move around comfortable. Bare in mind a male will get larger than a female on average.

the croc farms do a program where they give you a hatchling, you keep it for a couple of years until it gets bigger, then trade it back and get another hatchling, only have to pay for freight. i just dont like the idea of keeping something then sending it off to be turned into boots.
