would like to get some opinions on crushed walnut shell as a substrate, is also called lizard litter, i know its a bit pricy and would be interested to know if it would be more widely used if price was a lot cheaper.

Absolutely terrible stuff. Do NOT use it - there have been numerous horror stories.
This link shows what can happen: http://mrskingsbioweb.com/beardeddragngrossanatomy.htm
Warning though, it's graphic.

There are some old posts around, either here or on other forums showing the death of beardies after they swallowed some of this stuff. If I can find the info I will put it up for you. The autopsy pics where not nice at all, they where full of the crushed walnut shells!

Exactly. Nasty stuff - I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

They can also ingest small amounts of substrate when chasing and eating crickets in their enclosure. That walnut stuff, as you can see in the dissection pics, can do some very serious damage to their insides.
