Hi,
just thought I'd see how the general snake community is handling the current financial market. Are interest rates, cost of fuel/food etc affecting the way you keep your herps? Just curious to see what peoples opinions are and if anyone has had to make major adjustments to cope? Are snake sales still going well? do you still keep same number of animals etc?

i have just reduced the feed bill by half, by going direct to the supplyer so its just got cheaper for me, but power bills are going up, particularly if you live in melbourne where it is colder, however in saying that, i will be increasing my collection when i find the pythons i am after

I posted a little while ago with regards to the price of food. Some of the local pet shops in my area decided to inflate the cost of food up from $13.95 for pack of 10 fuzzies to $24.95. Talk about a near on 100% mark up, and the quality of food seemed to have decreased. Have decided since to go to another shop which sells each pinky/fuzzy/pup separately at about $1.00 each - hellofalot cheaper.

i work in a pet shop on weekends and im still shocked at the rediculous price of food!! its a shame imo, im actually finding more people are resorting to live food cause its cheaper then frozen..very sad imo. i can however honestly say that it isnt our fault! the price the suppliers are asking is what i belive we should be selling them for, if possibly go to the supplier!
as for fuel, as i tell my gf's family (cause its annoys them) it doesnt matter what it costs we all still need to buy it so nothing can be done...imo

interesting how mant people still buy food from petshops.....I suppose with a few animals it's OK, but it is definately worth buying direct or breeding your own.
I personally have no issue but was currious to see how things are looking in the current market.

I am 32, I have two beautiful kids (six years & two months). I am a single income family. I have a mortgage. I am a low income wage earner at the moment. We live life well and happy. Life is too short to worry about the cost of fuel and food when really it is a small increase in the grand scheme of things.
Everyone needs to stop whinging about fuel. Man it goes up 5 cents and it is the end of the world. Work it out people in a 60 litre tank that is like $3. Get over it.
I have had enough of all the carry on about it to be quite honest.
Live life, don't let it slip you by.

its not such a bad thing, the price of fuel, because people might actually stop and think about what they are putting in their car and what its doing to the environment. people are walking to the shop up the road rather than driving.
What will every1 do when theres no oil? it will happen, mayb not now, but in the future it will, we are sucking the earth dry, and quicker than what it can make it back.

Fuel & groceries have been getting worse and worse. With a big mortgage its just way too much. We can manage it, but more and more of our income is going towards expenses.
I have a standard 6cyl falcon and put $89 petrol in the other day. Thats ridiculous! I just bought another falcon to replace it and am very tempted to use the $2000 government grant to convert this one to LPG.

I've found reducing the number of 6-packs I consume each week certainly helps
The bit I laugh my guts out about is the turkeys who line up 20 deep (for over 1/2hr) at a service station to save 5c a litre!! Bwahahahahahaha For an average 50ltr tank that's a laughable $2.50! Deadset yabbys!! |

What about deisel though? I bought a new truck four months ago when deisel was $1.51. Now I saw it yesterday for $1.90. With two 70 litre tanks thats more then your $2.50 increase. I bet if unleaded went up that much in that time people would be spewing.

i'm spewing about the price hike side rip offs. like taxi drivers increasing their fee because of fuel prices when we know that they all run on gas.

Deadset yabbys!! | im with you moose, i dont bother with the dicounts at all, to save 2.50 they can stick that, i get fuel when i need it, and pay what it is within reason, though the pet shops are charging 4.40 to 4.80 for a weaner rat, and know i have sourced them for 2.00 bucks, that a better saving imo
